I’ll be in Atlanta next week and I’m wondering if there are any Oppo specials in the area? I haven’t decided if I’m renting a car yet, since I’ll be visiting a friend in Old Fourth Ward, where public transport seems to have good coverage.

So any museum/places/meetup tips for someone from Europe who’s just there for a week?

Go to Delia’s Chicken Sausage. You’ll thank me later. It’s probably my favorite restaurant of any kind, anywhere.

Go to the Museum of Puppetry Arts ( http://www.centerforpuppetryarts.com/museum/index.s… ). It’s a hidden gem in Midtown, near the High Museum of Art(?) — which is also really good. ( https://www.high.org/

The aquarium is overrated. You might like CNN Center if you want to see behind the scenes of major news productions. Olympic Park is worth a visit if the weather is nice.

Also, I highly recommend the short drive to Stone Mountain, east of Atlanta. It’s a pretty easy hike (or gondola ride) to the top of one of the world’s largest granite monoliths with the world’s largest relief sculpture on the face. You just pay $15 for parking and can spend all day there. One of my favorite ways to get away from the city and crowds. They have lots of kid-oriented touristy stuff there, but you can just hang out on the mountain and ignore all that if you prefer. http://www.stonemountainpark.com/

/not from Atlanta, but visit a couple times a year

Don’t know about specials, but I am in Atlanta and can offer this:

- While the city has some public transport it isn’t much use unless you are downtown and plan on staying there. You may want a car or plan on using Uber/cab.

- Tourist things to see down town- Georgia Aquarium (really good), World of Coke and CNN center (both OK). If you get the CityPass you can get into all of those for one price. Other things to see would be Stone Mountain and Martin Luther King Center.

- NASCAR is racing at Atlanta Motorspeedway the weekend of the 28th and 29th. If you are into that kind of thing I think they have reasonably priced tickets.

- Old Fourth Ward is pretty good. Some good bars and restaurants. My favorite area is Decatur on the east side of town. Hit the Brickstore Pub, Twains, Mellow Mushroom and Raging Burrito for drinks/food.

- Other good spots to eat: Fat Matts Rib Shack Southern style bar-b-que. Fox Brothers has smoked style bar-b-que. Mary Mac’s Tea Room and Vortex are also awesome. Really, hit the Vortex and get one of the best burgers around.

- If you like the Walking Dead you can go down to Senoia and see where it is all filmed.

- If you have any interest in aviation let me know. I can get you and a friend in to check out the Delta hangars.

There are some good hiking trails on the back side of the mountain and the island with the covered bridge is nice as well.

There’s one on Moreland and another on Marietta St, but I’ve never been to that one so I can’t guarantee it’s as good as the other.

The Moreland location has a Corvair across the street, so it’s sort of Jalop as a bonus!

Thanks for the tips! I think my friend has the day off on Friday, I’ll check with him if he wants to go to the Delta thing then. Otherwise I’ll probably ask if earlier in the week works.

It would need to be early Friday as I'm leaving early for a thing for my kids.

No worries. If you ever find yourself in Atlanta again drop me a note. Try and stay dry this week!
